Centro bus company’s paratransit subsidiary, Call-a-Bus, has two published telephone numbers. One, 442-3420, is for ride scheduling and confirming; the other, 442-3434, is for ride cancellations. On weekends there often is only one person answering both lines.
Last weekend I needed both to cancel a ride and to confirm a ride, so I called 442-3420. Selena answered. We canceled one ride then she told me that I should have called the other number. Well, I said, one person often answers both lines.
She said, “There are two people working today.” (Like I’m supposed to know?)
Selena continued to be hostile and insistent. Finally she got condescending and said, “Anne, you’ve been using this service for a long time and you know . . .” and blah, blah, blah.
I said, “Don’t patronize me.”
She replied, “I’m not patronizing; I’m Selena.”
Don’t ya’ just love it?
