I went to church this morning. It was my third time in attendance at a church where the chairs are all set up in advance without leaving a place for a wheelchair, so I sat with my chair backed up against the rear wall. People passing in front of me had to take a half-step out to get around me. I decided that next week I would ask them to pull a couple of chairs so I could be part of the congregation. Then a man came, pulled two chairs and asked me to move forward—because I was in the way and blocking a fire exit. It was a knife through my heart.
Folks, God did not make his covenant with the individual; he made it with the community. He called us to care for one another. Please put down your selfish lifestyle, look around and see who needs your help in order to be part of the community.
I, too, am a child of God and he wants you to welcome me.
