You have no better than average intelligence. You are working with forty people.
• Some of them never say what is true.
• None of them always say what is true.
• Some of them sometimes say what is true.
• You have to do what is right based on what is true.
I usually say what is true. I tell the nurse a spider is crawling on the left end of another patient’s arm. The nurse looks on the left end of the arm. I get angry with her because she is looking on the left end. She gets angry at me for getting angry at her.
The spider was on the right end of the other patient’s arm. My brain, mired in medical illness, bleeped and got it backwards.
There is no possibility for the patients and staff to work collaboratively in a nursing home because the reality is that you never can know what is true.
All is madness.
